Live Portrait Drawing

Live sketching is great for any event that needs a laid back interactive element including: openings, fundraisers, receptions, corporate events, and weddings.

My station is friendly and laid back— a nice place for guests to take a break for a sit and a quick chat or a few moments of quiet if that’s what they prefer. I keep the crowd moving so folks can also enjoy the rest of the event.

I can draw 6-10 portraits per hour. For busy events, I will have an assistant to help with crowd flow. Expect a maximum of 20 portraits for a two-hour event. Keep in mind that not everyone will want to have their portrait drawn (and that’s OK!)

I don’t need much! I just require:

• A 3x3 ft table for supplies and signage

• 3 chairs (one for myself and two for sitters)

• Adequate lighting or access to an outlet for me to bring my own lights

• Sheltered space when working outdoors.

I can fit up to three faces in a 5x7 sketch, so couples, families, or friends can sit together if they like.

I keep a warm, friendly environment at my station and talk through the sketch process with guests to put them at ease. Folks are invited to look over my shoulder or face to the side if that’s more comfortable than being drawn straight on. I’m happy to chat or draw quietly based on people’s preference. Not everyone will want to be drawn and that’s OK too! Guests are also welcome to watch me work.

I’m based in Central Maryland and am happy to travel within the DC/Maryland/Virginia area for your event. Travel fees may apply.

I’m happy to work with your event’s budget to provide 1-4 hours of portrait sketching. Pricing depends on sketching time, travel, and your event’s needs. My starting rate is $25/portrait or $150/hr.
